San Miguel - how to re-create that holiday mood (San Miguel)
Member Name: Crocquen
Advantages: Nice Beer Disadvantages: Not as good as in Spain
One of the many joys of hitting Spanish soil is the knowledge that after a few hours basking in the sunshine I'll be able to cool off and be refreshed. Sitting in a shady tapas bar by the sea with a delicious bottle of San Miguel - yum. It's a light refreshing beer that certainly hits the spot. But that is in Spain. When you return to England to try to recreate the holiday mood sitting in your backgardern contemplating whether the rain will hold off long enough to have a Bar B Que and then you pull out of the fridge a bottle of San Miguel Premium - note the difference in Spain its Especiale. Its brewed by Carlsberg in Northampton! Kind of loses it mediteranean feel when you read that on the label. However although the drink does taste a bit different from its Spanish counterpart, it might also be the fact that when you were drinking on your hols it was 30 degrees and you were in a jolly good holiday mood, and when you're drinking it at home well quite frankly you're not. However, I still think this drink is nicer than say Carlsberg, Stella, Kronenberg etc. Although beware of drinking it from a pump in a pub unless you've seen a few pints being pulled off. Pub drinkers tend to go more for the "normal" lagers and so you may find that the San Miguel's not quite as it should be. Summary: I wouldn't mind a beer! |
