Advantages: Clean, refreshing taste
Disadvantages: The head disappears quickly
My wife and I have spent a lot of time in Spain over the past couple of years. Aside from the gorgeous weather, the thing I miss most when I'm back in Britain is definitely the lovely amber colour of a chilled San Miguel. Most people, including myself, associate San Miguel with Spain, but it was in fact first brewed by a Spaniard in the Philippines back in 1890. Today it is the third largest selling beer brand in Asia and four out of every five beers consumed in the Philippines is a San Miguel. They must be doing something right! The amber colour, though best viewed under a sunny Spanish sky, seems just as nice today as I sit with the four bottles I bought from my local supermarket yesterday. The aroma is slightly hoppy, the flavour only a little bitter, and the aftertaste is very pleasant and refreshing. The head doesn't last very long, but I've always found this particular lager to sink extremely well and the alcohol content of 5.4% is on the better side of average. It tastes best chilled, although it's still very palatable at room temperature. Best of all, San Miguel goes very well with both bland and spicy food. I prefer it straight from the tap but at 99p for a 33cl bottle it's still very good value. If you're looking for something to drink tonight then I'd highly recommend this wonderful pilsner. Please excuse me while I fetch another bottle from the fridge. "Jill Murphy asked me to write about one of my favourite things to help her celebrate her fourth anniversary of cancer-free living and to remind ourselves of all the nice things in the world. It takes more muscles to make a frown than a smile you know. If you'd like to join in, whether you've only just joined dooyoo, or you've been here ages, you're more than welcome. Just write about one of YOUR favourite things, make your title "A Favourite Thing: [your choice]" and include this paragraph at the foot of
your opinion. And post before Friday, 9th August."
