Advantages: strong lemon flavour, good fizz

Disadvantages: high in sugar

Being quite a fan of Italian food I tend to look out for offers on Italian restaurants such as Prezzo and to keep costs down I will often opt to have a soft drink rather than alcohol. One soft drink that I find a lot of Italian restaurants sell is Sanpellegrino Limonata, a sparkling lemon beverage made with lemon juice. This is a lovely drink which is very tangy and refreshing and one that I have recently discovered can now be purchased in some supermarkets too.

The Limonata comes packaged in 330ml cans and can either be purchased in single cans or in multi-packs of 6. My last purchase was of a single 330ml can from a Sainsbury's local store for £0.79. This may seem quite expensive for a single can of soft drink but in my opinion it is worth it as the drink is made in Italy and contains 16% lemon juice which is much higher than most fruit flavoured soft drinks.

The cans are made out of aluminium with a ring pull opening, the cans do have a foil peel able seal which fits over the top of the can which makes the can look quite pretty. The can is yellow in colour at the bottom and blue at the top, there is a picture of fresh lemons on the front and some basic nutritional information. On the back of the can you can find more detailed information about the drink including full ingredients listings, storage instructions and full nutritional information.

Although the Limonata drink contains 16% lemon juice it does also contain a fairly high amount of sugar which does push up the calorie content. Each 330ml can contains 33.0g of sugar and 149 calories. Personally this makes this drink a treat for me as I like to keep my sugar intake as low as possible and try and drink sugar free soft drinks where possible.

The drink itself is a cloudy colour, it does have a lovely fresh lemon fragrance and a good amount of fizz. I love the taste of this drink as it is the most refreshing and tasty sparkling lemon drink I have tried. It does not taste in anyway artificial and has a zesty, tangy flavour. It is best served cold and over ice which makes it even more refreshing especially on a nice summers day. In my personal opinion this is a lovely drink and certainly worth the money for an occasional treat.

Summary: tangy, refreshing lemon drink
