Diet Lemonade With a Great Taste Which Makes A Change (Schweppes Diet Lemonade)

I don't normally buy any other lemonade except R Whites but as I was on my way home the other day I realised that I had forgotten to get some. Threshers was the nearest place to buy some, so called in there. No R Whites, no ordinary Schweppes Lemonade, but they did have the Schweppes diet variety so paid £1.49 for it, which I know is a little over the odds for the 2 litre bottle in Tesco.

The bottle is much like any other throwaway plastic 2 litres bottle and it has a yellow screw on top and a clear plastic sleeve around it giving product information. According to the back of the label, I am supposed to use the contents to mix myself a Pimms and lemonade, but sadly, I gave up my Pimms at roughly the same time as I stopped the Sobranie Cocktail cigarettes and upsetting everyone on the bus with Disc Blue French smokes. (Anyone who remembers this era must certainly be in my age bracket. You had to be there to appreciate it!)

This lemonade contains aspartame and saccharin but it does not have that sickly cloying taste that most of these diet drinks have. Apparently there are just 4 calories in a 250ml serving.

When I first unscrewed the top there was certainly a lot of fizz in the bottle and even three days later it hadn't gone flat, so I was able to use most of it. I find that very cheap lemonades like the Tesco value diet ones lose their fizz over night, even if you have only drunk a small amount from the bottle and recapped it tightly.

I used the lemonade in vodka and it does go very well. I don't like my vodka drowned but I like enough lemonade in it to so that it doesn't make my eyes water, if you know what I mean. Taste wise, I didn't need to put much lemonade in.

I certainly would buy this again but I would go somewhere cheaper than Threshers to buy it. I haven't been a fan of diet lemonade before but this has restored my faith in it. Schweppes diet lemonade will be my mixer of choice from now on.

Summary: A good product with excellent taste.
