      Disadvantages

      Not recommended.

I fancied something a bit different while I was out doing some top up shopping recently. Normally we get a couple of multipacks of things like Sprite and Coke to use as mixers with spirits or to drink on their own and we'd run out. But I decided to have some ginger beer for a change as I hadn't had any in ages and settled on Schweppes ginger beer because they're usually a superior brand.

Note that I did the shopping in a corner store by the way, the wife has since been to Sainsburys and informs me that they don't sell it there. So availability is an issue here before even considering the product itself.

The ones I bought were cans by the way, not bottles like the picture shows. I'd imagine the bottles are available in pubs as mixers though. These cans cost £3.19 for a multipack of six and came in a standard plastic outer wrap like most soft drinks do.

The smell hit me as soon as I'd chilled then opened my first can. It was as gingery as you could imagine! There was also a hint of lemon to it too which is odd as there's no lemon in this. The taste wasn't as good as I thought it would be I have to admit. I found it was nice and gingery, very strong - but not very sweet at all. And there was a bit of a strange aftertaste to it too.

Perhaps that's why the supermarkets don't stock it then? Well, at least Sainsburys don't. I was really dissappointed with this and will be trying a different brand next week to see if there's a difference. I used to love ginger beer but this awful stuff really put me off! What's worse is that I needed another drink ten minutes after finishing the can to not only wash the awful taste out of my mouth but to actually quench my thirst too.
