Advantages: Subtle sweet lemon taste, low calorie content, stays fizzy

Disadvantages: When mixed with alcohol it tastes the same as the Value brands

When it comes to soft drinks I only drink diet. I've been drinking diet drinks for so long I can immediately tell if I have been giving a non diet soft drink or "full fat" drink (as I call them).

So when purchasing lemonade its always going to be diet. If I'm going to have a soft drink with no alcohol I would always go for (diet) coke but if I was having a soft drink as a mixer to an alcoholic drink it would more than likely be lemonade, although I do have a tendency to opt for lemonade every once in a while. From all of the lemonades that I have tried Schweppes Diet Lemonade has to be my favourite.

****************Packaging***************

The lemonade comes in a 2 litre plastic bottle with a yellow lid. The label is silver metallic with the Schweppes logo and the text saying diet is emphasised. If you are in the supermarket aisles the bottle does stand out due to the packaging looking a lot nicer and shiny compared to its competitors.

****************Price******************

In my local Asda a bottle of this is priced at 90p which is similar to other supermarkets such as Tesco. There are often special offers on the product, usually two bottles for £1.50 which makes the product more affordable. I have seen this product priced at £1.40 a bottle in some convenience stores which is pretty pricey.

In comparison to other brands the Schweppes lemonade is more expensive but does taste a lot better compared to the cheaper alternatives. As with most soft drinks, the Schweppes diet lemonade does have a slightly unnatural taste about it but not in the same way as some of the cheaper brands , which make your teeth feel like they have a sticky coating on after drinking it.

***************Taste******************

****As a soft drink***

This is definitely my favourite diet lemonade to drink on its own. The lemonade is very fizzy, especially when you first open the bottle. In fact it is so fizzy it's often difficult to drink as soon as you pour it. Once opened the lemonade stays fizzy in the bottle for around 3 days. It starts to go flat after this but not completely flat like cheaper brands do.

Before you take a drink of the lemonade there is a strong sweet lemon aroma which makes you expect the product to be strong tasting. In fact it does taste sweet but not overly sweet and the lemon taste is very subtle and leaves a fresh aftertaste in your mouth.

****As a mixer****

I usually mix the Schweppes Diet lemonade with vodka. This takes away some of the sweetness of the lemonade in comparison to when it is drunk alone. The subtle lemon taste is also less apparent and the lemonade tastes very similar to its cheaper competitors. This is the case for when the lemonade is used as a mixer for other alcoholic drinks such as Bacardi, Southern Comfort, Malibu and Archers. However when mixed with Pimms the lemonade gives the drink a very fresh sweet taste in a way in which other lemonades do not match up to.

For those who are counting calories this is a good choice. Interestingly enough however the Asda Smartprice lemonade contains only 1 calorie (it tastes vile though) despite it not being advertised as a "diet" product". It's often worth checking the calorie content as the

****************Summary*****************

If you are drinking lemonade on its own as a soft drink I would definitely say that Schweppes Diet lemonade is the best choice available. Once the bottle is opened it stays fizzy for longer than other brands, has a subtle lemon taste which is sweet; but not too sweet. If you are having lemonade as a mixer my advice would be to go for the cheaper brands (just not Asda Smartprice lemonade it's vile), they taste the same as the Schweppes Diet Lemonade especially if you are mixing with vodka.

Summary: A very fizzy diet lemonade from a reputable brand

I'm not enough of a lemonade expert to justify spending the premium for the Schweppes name ;-)

Only problem with diet drinks, is that Aspartame (commonly used) is far less healthier than normal sugar. An is reportedly rather a nasty substance and possibly Carcinogenic. I prefer less of real sugary drinks, than replacing them with a chemical. A good review though LoolS!
