Advantages: Good mixer
Disadvantages: Not good alone
Schweppes is probably most well known for its lemonade, and also it's difficult to spell as I had to triple check it!
So who are Schweppes?
Some quick research led me to finding out that Schweppes is a Coca-Cola brand. This is something I find extremely interesting as I believe it would sell better if more people knew that it was a Coca-Cola brand. However Coca-Cola has made a considerable stance in the mixer market by putting creating the Schweppes brand exclusively for this purpose.
Schweppes Lemonade would never be in my list of potential drinks to buy if I was looking for a drink, but usually comes back to the house in with a weekly shop, as someone else does the majority of household shopping. This is usually in the 2L bottle, which is what my review will be based on.
What is it?
Schweppes lemonade is a carbonated soft drink which gets its flavour from the addition of real lemon juice.
FLAVOUR
As stated, the flavour comes from real lemon juice. I personally do not enjoy the taste of lemons as a fruit, which is what really puts me off this drink. However, I find it tolerable if I had to drink it I just wouldn't particularly enjoy it.
PACKAGING
Schweppes is clearly labelled across the front stating that it is lemonade; there is also a picture of a slice of lemonade. The label splits the colours of silver at the top and blue on the bottom. The list of ingredients is also shown on the label. The see through bottle allows you to see the clear liquid inside. I am only extremely familiar with the 2L bottle packaging as it is what regularly comes into the house hold.
NUTRITIONAL VALUES
The Coca-Cola website allows you to choose various amounts on the lemonade drink and will provide you with nutritional values per serving.
A 250ml serving is listed as having 46kcal calories, 10.5g of sugar, 0 fat and saturates and 0.01g of salt.
When compared to GDA this equates to 2% calories, 12% sugars and 2% salt.
Therefore, the drink seems rather healthy and low in calories. The only high value is the sugar content, which is to be expected in a carbonated drink.
DISTRIBUTION
I have only seen this in small can versions and 2L bottles. To this reviewers knowledge it isn't sold in individual 500ml bottles for personal consumption.
USES
As noted previously Schweppes is aimed at the market of mixers. This beverage is traditionally used as an addition to alcoholic drinks suck as whiskeys and spirits. However, not being the alcohol type I have some more appropriate uses. I like to mix this with diluting juice, as this will mask the flavour of the lemonade and makes it drinkable. This transforms what would have been a still drink, from the addition of water, into a fizzy drink. This provides a nice change if I'm in the mood for a fizzy drink and these are the only available options.
Overall I would never drink this on its own, but it is useful for other things and is most certainly aimed at the mixers market.
Summary: Has its uses
