Schweppes Russchian is a mixer drink designed to mix with vodka. It comes in a one litre plastic bottle with a screw cap and free measuring cap for spirits attached to the top.

This fizzy drink is a very pale pink in colour and it has a fruity, aromatic kind of smell. It contains cirtic acid, and colourant made from grape skins. This is where the pink colour comes from. It also contains sugar and saccharin.

A hundred mils of this mixer contains 25 kcals and 5.9 grams of sugar. So, if you mix a small shot of vodka with a hundred mils of mixer, you get a drink which only has 65 calories. I think this is great if you are on a diet and fancy something just a bit naughty, or if you are watching your weight. It tastes much better that sugar free Coke, or diet lemonade. There is a real kick to the flavour.

This product is available in Tesco and other large supermarkets and cost 97 pence for a 1 litre bottle. It is a perfect accompaniment to vodka , especially if you add ice and a slice of lemon. This would make a very good 'posh' party drink.

For some reason, this Schweppes mixer is only available in Europe, so you won't be able to buy it if you holiday elsewhere.

Russchian can also be used with other spirits if vodka is not your thing:

Russchian Comfort:

1 measure Southern Comfort
Ice
A splash of lime
Fill with Russchian to make a long drink.


Wobbler:

1 measure vodka
1 measure grape juice
1 measure grenadine
Fill with Russchian.



There are lots of other ways to use this mixer and I have discovered that children like it with ice. However, it's too tasty with vodka for me to give away to the kids. If you haven't tried it you are in for a surprise. It tasted much more lively than I had expected.

Summary: Great mixer for vodka, or other spirits if you feel adventurous.
