Advantages: Ideal mixer for vodka, great taste

Disadvantages: A bit sickly

I always drink Vodka when I go out as it's the only drink that doesn't give me an awful hangover the next day! To be honest I don't really enjoy the taste of vodka unless its mixed with red bull which after a bit can get boring and has been known to make me feel like I'm bordering on a fit!! So I was glad to discover this mixer by Schweppes. I actually found out about it through a friend who was drinking a pink drink when I was over at their house. They've got kids and I assumed it was some kind of pink lemonade they stole off the kids but they told me it was actually a vodka mixer. So next time I was going out I went out and got some. I got it from Morrisons but have seen it in most other leading supermarkets.

***Packaging...

I really like the packaging for this, it comes in a 100ml clear plastic bottle with a silver lid and over this a silver shot measure cup for whatever spirit you mix it with. The liquid inside is pink which looks good through the clear bottle. It has a full size wraparound clear label with the usual Schwepps logo at the top and beneath this the Russchian logo which is a two headed silhouette style eagle in pink with 'Russchian' written in bold black capitals, and a small 'perfect for vodka' beneath this also in black lettering.

The packaging looks sophisticated and really stands out. I know it's only a bottle...but it does make buying and drinking the stuff more appealing. As far as I know this is the only packaging for the drink in the UK, but I've heard it is more popular in other parts of Europe and is available in a can and smaller bottles in other countries.

***The Drink...

The taste is described as 'a refined wildberry flavour with slightly sweet taste'. I've never tasted wildberry before but could tell it was some kind of berry taste, as it reminded me a bit of a mix between elderberry and raspberry. The 'slightly sweet' bit is perhaps a slight understatement as it is quite sickly, but no worse that most alcopops or red bull. It contains 20% sugar which explains the sweetness so isn't the best if you are trying to look after your teeth.

It is really fizzy and I would definitely recommend drinking it all once opened as it isn't the same once it has lost its fizz. Most importantly for me it went really well with vodka. It didn't clash at all and did well in disguising the horrible edge that vodka can have. Although I liked the flavour I can't imagine drinking it as an everyday drink as it is sickly, but I have since enjoyed it as a pre-night out drink. Also I think after having a few the taste gets a bit much though so I don't think I could drink it all night.

I've never really been in a diet of understood calorie counting but after reading the nutritional info on the back of the bottle I can gather that this isn't a particularly healthy option if you are on a diet, but it is great as a treat.

The best thing about this drink is that it really is individual and I've not seen anything else like it, therefore I couldn't recommend a cheaper version or a copy of it.

***Ingredients...
Carbonated Water, Sugar, Citric Acid, Flavourings, Preservative (E211), Colour (Grapeskin Anthocyanins), Sweetener (Sodium Saccharin)

***Overall Opinion...

I'm really glad I found this drink and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a sweet drink or is looking for something different to mix with vodka for a change.

Clear drinks like vodka don't give me hangovers either, probably should have thought of that last night...
