Advantages: Wide range of flavours, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Can get crowded.
Ahhh... Shakeaway, what a great idea it is! Basically it is any combination of milkshake you could ever want! As is sometimes the case with other milkshakes, you order one thing and what you end up with bares no resemblance to the flavour you were expecting. This isn't the case with Shakeaway. You order a flavour and that is the flavour you will get.
I have visited Reading and Bath shakeaways over the past 4 years and have tried out quite a few different flavours. My favourite now is bourbon biscuit... Particularly when you get lumps of biscuit at the bottom of the cup to gobble up at the end! Personally I have always stuck with the chocolately or biscuity flavours. Flavours like sherbet dibdab or strawberry laces don't really appeal to me personally. But I'm sure they are great if that's what you fancy!
The Shakeaway shops themselves are generally standard in style and fittings, with yellow and blue interior (like the cups). I have unfailingly found the staff to be very positive and upbeat bunch. They give you plenty of time to peruse the menu and will make suggestions without being pressurising.
Like a previous reviewer said, the shops can get busy, but it is really easy to beat the queues. Just avoid 12-3 on a Saturday! During those hours it will be full of teenagers, but other than that, you'll find the shop is actually pretty quiet. My personal preference is to go in early, soon after opening, sit up on one of the big bar stools and watch the world go by, taking my time with my shake!
Milkshakes vary in cost depending on size and any toppings. I always go for a regular size, with no topping, which comes to £2.70. There are discounts available for students. They also do a loyalty card (get 10 stamps and get a free shake) which is worth getting if you visit regularly.
Go and find your favourite!
Summary: Enjoy finding your favourite!
