I often find myself drinking Shloer Sparkling Red Grape Juice. This isn't particularly because I like it, it is because I don't drink wine in general, and when people have a dinner party the non-alcoholic option tends to be Shloer.

The reason for this is that it has a stylish glass bottle, so looks more special than normal soft drinks, and is made from grapes, so is about as close to wine as you can get, without actually being wine.

Shloer is made from carbonated water added to various sugars, natural flavours, and 29 per cent red grape juice. It is free from artificial preservatives, artificial colours, artificial flavours and artificial sweeteners. Itt is also suitable for vegetarians.

The drink is a reddish colour which is mostly transparent. It tastes very sweet and sugary even though when you look at the ingredients it doesn't contain as much sugar as many soft drinks. It is quite fruity but I don't find it particularly refreshing and I wouldn't choose to buy it myself as it tastes a bit synthetic to me, even though it has natural ingredients. I understand why people offer this as an alternative to wine but I would rather just have a nice glass of water!

Shloer contains 42 calories and 10.4 grams of sugar per 100 ml. A 1 litre bottle costs £1.93 from Tesco normally, but they are currently running a 2 for £3 offer, so if you like Shloer then now is the time to stock up!
