Treat yourself for the holidays (Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale)
Member Name: awilli9004
Advantages: Unique flavor, Not overly heavy like most winter offerings Disadvantages: Can be difficult to find, Can be a bit hight priced when you can find it. I recommend that you treat yourself -- it's near the holidays!, May be overly hoppy for some
Next to Sam Adams, the offerings from Sierra Nevada are my second favorite overall for those coming out of the US. For limited editions coming out of the US, this even surpasses Sam Adams. Orange-red color, hoppy aroma turns to citric grapefruit. This IPA tastes very similar to it's aroma -- very hoppy flavor and you also get the grapefruit again, while there is a good maltiness to counterbalance. I found this one to be very refreshing and the best winter ale I tasted during the 2000-01 winter brewing period. Some may find that the hoppiness is a bit overwhelming for them but I enjoyed this one thoroughly. Unlike most winter ales, I think I could actually drink this one on a regular basis. Unfortunately, this is not an options since it is only available during the winter months. Summary: |
