Singha

Description: Sharp fresh lager from Thailand. Good with spicy food.

... head that doesn't last very long at all. It's a pale yellow colour and carbonation looks to be fairly high. The taste test: Initially sweet and malty, but ultimately watery and light bodied with a slightly dry and bitter finish. A lot of Asian beers follow the same trend, unoffensive, not at all unpleasant, but nothing at all ground breaking. But in the tropical heat this is kind of exactly what you desire; I don't think something like a wheat beer would be very appropriate for 35 degree heat. So I think these types of...more

Premium Review Singha: Sing-hahahahaha! (295 words)

This is another beer from South East Asia, this time from Thailand. This weighs in at 5% vol. Pretty strong then. It's always in Tesco at around the £1.70-80 per 680ml bottle mark. The logo is actually fairly minimalistic. White and gold. Nothing over elaborate or pretentious. How does it smell? The smell is not at all overpowering. It's definitely a lot more malty than other Asian beers. Other than that, it's hard to say! On pouring we get a very thin head that doesn't last very long at all. A few years ago, I was travelling around and decided to pop in to Thailand - I didn't think a great deal to the country, finding it quite touristy, one thing you can't avoid though is the obvious humidity. The minute you leave the air-conditioned airport of Bangkok, there's only one thing on your mind - drinking liquids! Of course beer isn't ideal for rehydrating but a new country's liquour supply was on hand to be tested! Singha is produced by the Boon Rawd Brewery - the Boon Rawd family originally bought rights to German beers to produce it for the Thai King, some 4 generations ago. The recipe today is said to be pretty much the same and ...  Read the complete review

Rating:

Ah the beer of the gods..., yeah right! Many of you may have tried this famous beer of Thailand in a local Thai restrant on a nice night out, and you probably enjoyed it too. But there is another side to this favoirate son of the Thai beer family. If you have ever spent any time in Thailand then you'll know that Singa Beer is by far and away the dominant brand in the country, and the locals certainly prefer it over other natives of the country such as Chang (Elephant) Beer, and Leo (Lion) Beer. They like their animals in thailand. And for this reason it is slightly more expensive at around 80 - 90 Bart for a long bottle, thats about £1.60 to you or me. ...  Read the complete review
