Advantages: tasty, low calorie and fat, only need 2 teaspoons per mug.

Disadvantages: none except the price I paid!

I'm not one for counting calories at all but we couldn't get the car out of the car park to do the normal Sainsburys shop because of 10 inches of frozen snow so ended up donning our wellies and walking a mile to the little shop nearest to us. This was the only hot chocolate they had which cost under £4 and that's the only reason I bought it.

Huddersfield is the worst hit town in the country with snow this last couple of days and yes that's where I live :) Last night they gave out a severe weather warning for the rest of the country but a special 'Extremely severe warning' for us lol. There's nearly a foot and then last night it all froze.
What do I crave when it's so cold? Hot chocolate with marshmallows of course!

This hot chocolate by Skinny Cow (a brand-name within the Nestle group by the way) is available in 2 flavours; Mint and chocolate, both were stocked in my local little shop but I fancied the mint one and so in the basket it went.

About the brand
---------------------------
Skinny cow are a new name from Nestle offering low fat, low calorie sweet things such as ice creams and this hot chocolate.

Packaging
----------------------
It looks good, it's a plastic jar covered in black and white cow print plastic, the lid has the Nestle branding on but it isn't obvious anywhere else on the jar.

The 'skinny cow' logo is a quite slim cow lounging across a red scroll which houses the words 'The Skinny Cow' across a green and red shield shape. The cow has a yellow tape measure around its waist; it's definitely a female cow as it is wearing lipstick lol.
Under the scroll the bottom half of the shield is green because the flavour is mint. I am told this is 'instant indulgent mint flavour' and below this is a picture of a white cup of hot chocolate.

On the front of the jar they push the fact that it is less than 40 calories per serving (based on 200ml of water and two heaped teaspoons of hot chocolate powder).

The hot chocolate
-----------------------------
The powder looks just like any hot chocolate, its pale brown and powdery!!

It smells really good, as soon as you open the jar the mint smell hits you; definitely more so than my old favourite Mint Options hot chocolate.

As instructed I put two teaspoons of the powder into a mug (less than most hot chocolates need so quite economic in that way) It says to fill with hot but not boiling water and stir well, I put half hot water and half hot milk to make it creamier but this obviously ups the calorie content.
The minty smell intensifies as I pour on the water and it smells mouth-watering!

It mixes well with the water and milk and I'm left with a creamy looking, smooth, thick hot chocolate with a slightly foamy top. I squirt some whipped cream on top and add a good handful of marshmallows; ready to taste......

I'm comparing this to both options hot chocolate and Starbucks as they're the only two mint hot chocolates I've tried before today. It definitely wins first prize for me, it doesn't taste like a diet food it tastes luxurious and indulgent.
The mint flavour is a lot stronger than the other 2 mentioned and it's also really chocolatey and creamy. I know the milk will add to this but I put milk in Options too and it doesn't taste this creamy!

10/10 for me and it's just a bonus that it's less calorific than others on the market. It does have added sweeteners and sugar so it obviously couldn't be classed as 'good for you' but if you need that hot chocolate fix this is probably your best bet if you're watching your weight.

The RRP is £2.59 for 200g (around the same price as most branded hot chocolate drinks) but like I say you only need 2 teaspoons, a lot you need 3-4 teaspoons of.

I paid £3.19 (ouch) but I needed it!

Summary: A great flavoured hot chocolate
