Disadvantages: too much makes you really ill

Like a lot of teenagers today drinking plays a huge part in our young culture and to be in with the crowd you can be pressured into drinking too much to keep with the others or risk being bullied or worse being classed as a geeky kid and no-one will bother with you.
So, at 13 hanging around the streets your likely to get introduced to cheap cider, then progress onto Vodka and Smirnoff is a big favorite on the streets.

I'm lucky enough to have parents who I can talk to and they have always been there for me to guide and advise without laying down the rules in a harsh or demanding way, they knew I had a drink at an early age but even though they didn't approve they never grounded me, but constantly warned of the effects of over drinking, thye would let me go out with my mates but want to know where I was going, who i was with, what I had had to drink when I came back and would text me on my mobile to keep in touch, but it wasn't until I learned the hard way that I realised they were right.

We used to hang around in town and some adults would buy us alcohol a bottle of Smirnoff would cost around £7.99 or more depending if the co-op we used to get it from had it on offer.
The vodka is see though liquid and when you taste it it's very warm on the tongue and if you get a big glug it takes your breath away.
The alcohol content is quite high at 37.5 per cent which is why we used to chip in and buy it. Vodka is a firm favorite with the young kids and from there you seem to progress to Vokda Ice, VK Blue and other alcho pops, after all it's too easy to get a taste for it.
There is a huge problem with binge drinking and when your a kid you don't realise where this can get you. Or the damage it can do to your health.

You can get lots of information on Smirnoff Vodka on their website if you like go to www.smirnoff.com there's lots to browse through.

At the age of sixteen I had stopped drinking cheap cider or other beers and usually just had the odd VK Blue when out after going through the process of hanging around the streets in gangs it became boring, I think if my parents hadn't wanted me too or kicked up a fuss it would have made it more exciting, but they didn't so I grew out of it.
Then one night I went out with some mates, we had all been dancing and had a few drinks, one mate had a bottle of Smirnoff and passed it around and stupidly I was drinking it neat out of the bottle, after about 20 minutes I fell to the floor with really bad pains in my stomach.
I felt hot, dizzy but not like I was drunk this was worse.
The pains got worse and I began to be sick. My mates rushed me to hospital and from there rang my mum.

She rushed to the hopsital and found me in a side ward looking like death warmed up, the doctor came in to talk to her as i was passing in and out of conciousness.
He said I had had an allergic reaction to the neat vodka and this had made me ill, causing me to go dizzy, sweat and be sick.
With being sick so violently I had ripped my stomach lining and had to be treated with some pink liquid medicine to put a linning on my stomach. I had to stay in hospital and was given talking to by the doctor.
My mum just waited until we were alone and said " I'm not even going to say anything because you already know in your your head why this has happened and I'm sure you won't do it again."
She was right! I have never drank neat vodka since that day, I occasionally drink the odd VK Blue but neat vodka makes me ill.
So, Smirnoff isn't something I'd recommend.

Remember, if your young like me and are drinking with your mates on the streets coz there's nothing to do and no-where to go, then just take the time to think about the long term effects of what your doing. I was lucky just have ripped my stomach linning and get ill for a week. I could have been an alcoholic, died of alcohol poisoning, had liver failure and other scary illnesses from drinking at too young an age.

Summary: If you have to - drink it in moderation

Whilst well written & useful as a cautionary tale about the perils of underage/binge drinking, this doesn't really constitute a review of Smirnoff & it's merits as a vodka.

I love vodka and have a bottle of Absolut chilling in the fridge.
