I run a bar and bodka is one of our biggest selling spirits. We don't actually sell Smirnoff bu ti have run a number of places that do and Smirnoff red is usually the standard house pouring vodka.

On holiday i have seen many Russians drinking it straight with ice however in the UK it is usually drunk with a mixer - orange, cranberry, coke, lemonade and Red Bull are all very popular choices. It is also used in so many cocktails you couldn't possibly name them all but some of the most popular ones include Cosmopolitans, Woo Woos and Black Russians, but the list is endless.

Vodka has quite a neutral taste and the alcohol has no smell which makes it a popular and easy to drink spirit. Compared with other spirits it's quite low in calories and contains no fat so it's very popular with the ladies and sports people - especially vodka, lime and soda.

Smirnoff red is the original smirnoff vodka that started in a Russian vodka distillery. It is triple distilled (distillation is the process of purification) and is supposed to make it a 'smoother' vodka. The alcohol percentage of Smirnoff red is 37.5%.

Smirnoff Blue is more expensive and this is because it is vert strong at 45%. It is meant to be even smootehr than Smirnoff red and is passed through 8tonnes of granite before being bottled to get the optimum smoothness and purity.

I would recommend trying the blue vodka if you don't mind paying the extra but with some great deals in bars on Smirnoff red most people stick with that.
