I am a big fan of Corona, the other popular Mexican bottled lager served with a slice of lime, but I have to admit I was sceptical about this rival to my favourite summer beer when my other half picked them up on special offer for a night in recently. The idea with these lagers, like with Corona, it to serve them with a slice of lime in the top. The idea of doing this in Mexico was not, as many people think, to add to the taste of the lager (although I do think it adds a certain something!), but to keep flies and other tropical bugs out of the beer. Personally I have got so used to drinking these lagers with the lime in that they just dont taste right without ... Read the complete review

Legend says that in 1899 when this beer was first being made by a German brewer in Mexico, the sun rays shining through the window led him to name the beer 'El Sol' the sun. So Sol was born in 1899 and is an incredibly popular beer in latin america. Over here its a designer lager to be enjoyed in expensive bars, in Mexico it is an essential addition to a meal with a fruity taste, and the addition of a lime, this works perfectly with fiery, spicy mexican food and is lovely and refreshing on even the warmest day. Unfortunately for us, it seems so long since we had a warm sunny day, but this lager is still becoming more and more popular in the UK, as ... Read the complete review

I think I'm right in saying that Sol is the only widely available Mexican lager in the UK, although I would be willing to be corrected on this. As a Brit, Sol is seen as something of an exotic lager over here, and is usually only found in places such as Tumbleweeds and Chi-Chi's Mexican restaurants although it has its way onto the supermarket shelves as well. But is it any good? The problem with beers of this kind is thatyou are usually out and about when drinking them - having fun at a Mexican restaurant and not paying attention to the taste as it mingles with the food anyway. What You do get though is a light malty beer which has a very small fizzy ... Read the complete review

Sol is refreshing light tasting beer which is brewed in mexico by the Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma brewery (CCM). Its been brewed there since 1899 and is now being exported to a host of countries around the world included the UK. Its only available in the UK in 330ml bottles and is 4.5% which is 1.5 units. (The description on this website is incorrect and i have asked for this to be changed. it is not 3.5%) Sol is head to head with Corona. They are both served in bars with a slice of lime which adds to the flavour of the beer. The beer is available in lots of high street bars and clubs including walkabout, revoultions and oceana. Its also listed in Tesco, ... Read the complete review

Sol is a light lager brewed in Mexico. Some people I know view this as the cheap alternative to Corona, however I think that this is unfair and this is a great beer in its own right. Personally I prefer Sol to Corona. Starting off, I have found that I can often pick Sol up pretty cheaply- Aldi sometimes has it at incredible prices. This is obviously a bonus, especially given the economic climate. As for the taste of Sol, I think it tastes great however I think that the taste is probably not up as many peoples street as the taste of Corona is. It is a less accessible taste that takes maybe a bottle or so to get used to. Like Corona, I like to ... Read the complete review
