Advantages: Sweet taste

Disadvantages: Too sour for some

Whenever I'm out with a few mates for some drinks, one of us will normally say "Sourz?", and we'll grab a few each, line them up, and try and down them in the quickest time possible. Sourz is a brand of flavoured liquers that have a volume of 15%, and so are fairly weak when compared to the likes of JD and Southern Comfort, but they're a nice drink to fill rounds if you're waiting for people to catch up, or fancy a change from something as voluminous (liquid wise) as a pint.

Unlike Aftershock, for instance, Sourz has, as the name implies, a very sour taste, which may be simply too much for some tastes, but it's still relatively easy to drink because it doesn't "burn" when it goes down, unlike a lot of other drinks. Also, if it's too sweet for you, you can drop it in another drink and make some very interesting combinations, as I did once with an Apple Sourz shot and a JD and coke.

There are five flavours that I am aware of - Apple (by far the most popular one), Cherry (the second most popular), Tropical, Peach, and Pineapple. I've not tried all of the flavours - in fact, only Apple and Cherry - but the sensation is much the same regardless of which flavour you buy - an extremely sweet, sour sensation as it slides down your throat.

You can also buy a bottle of Sourz in most supermarkets these days, although some flavours are easier to find than others, with the Apple flavour being by far the most accessible. The bottles are 70cl, and tend to go for about £9-10, which I think is quite reasonable for such a premium product, especially considering how much milage you can get out of a bottle over a few nights. In Wetherspoons bars, shots tend to cost about £1, although if you go to proper "clubs", you're liable to pay quite a bit more for it, which I would argue isn't really worth it.

Summary: Might not be to all tastes but a nice alternative to beer all the time
