Advantages: smooth, pleasant, sweet
Disadvantages: price
I first tasted Southern Comfort about 10 years ago when I lived in Germany and although it would not be my regular drink, I do like a couple of glasses every now and again after a meal. THE TASTE: Rich and smooth, but very sweet, although this sweetness is offset by the bourbon which provides and interesting and very desirable taste. I prefer to drink my Southern comfort in a tall glass with lemonade and ice. It can also be taken with cola or tonic although for those who don't have a sweet tooth, mixers tend to make this drink much sweeter so it is best just taken with ice. THE PRICE: Southern Comfort varies in price depending on where you buy it, a 70Cl bottle normally costs around £16.00 from local off licences or supermarkets although Tesco's and Sainsbury's will often have special offers on for around £13. I often buy my Southern Comfort when on holidays as you can usually get a 2 litre bottle for about £17 in Tenerife. The vol. of this drink also varies depending on which country you buy it in but it is usually about 40% vol. THE WEBSITE: The Southern Comfort website can be accessed at www.southerncomfort.com, the homepage asks for your country and date of birth, the reason for this is unknown, although I presume its to verify that you are over 18, It is a very informative site that gives the history of southern comfort from when it was first produced right through to the present day. There is a shop function but this is for US residents only, however if you leave your e-mail address they promise to contact you when the facility becomes available in your country. There is a very interesting section on cocktails and even a section on how to cook with Southern Comfort, some of the delicious recipes include BBQ chicken wings, meatballs and a variety of salads. They will even send you a free food and drink recipe book. However, unless they bring their prices down a bit I don't think I
9;ll be pouring over my food! Definitely a drink for those with a sweet tooth.
