Advantages: Gets your rocks well and truely on....................... .
Disadvantages: Smashing their face instead of their back door in...................
I really do love this lager but to be honest nearly everything thats wrong with our country can be related back to this premium strength beverage. So here i go with the list:
1. The obvious - Binge drinking, i know a handful of lads around the age of 21 who already have significant liver damage, the drink i see them ordering the most is stella.
2. The ASBO generation: Theres no denying Stella has a trendy image that appeals to kids, Its the most well known strong lager and kids wanting to be seen as hard will hang around drinking a can of stella as a status symbol.
3. Teenage preganancy: Similar reasons as above, a boozy night on a street corner when your too young to get in a pub will no doubt end in careless copulation. When i drink Stella the feeling of 'not giving a F**k' is definatly stronger for me than when i drink other well known weaker beers.
4. Domestic violence: Stella's nickname 'Wife Beater' is well and truely earned in my opinion. Ive lost count of the ammount of times freinds have recalled stories of a night out on a couple of pints of Stella, not even being legless and the urge to get violent just bubbling up inside of them. People laugh about this but ive often wondered what it is in this drink that makes people behave that way, its surely not natural. I have a friend who spends a lot of time in europe, where they drink a different type of Stella, he says Its not as strong and doesnt lead to those violent feelings and outbursts like its UK counterpart does.
5. Pub Brawling: Same reasons a above, I try to keep away from the sort of places where this happens but the sad truth is a lot of our young generation go out with fighting specifically in mind as part of the nights fun. Often fueled by Stella Artois.
The Facts:
Stella in the form we all know and love was first created at at the Artois brewery in the belguim city of Leuven at Christmas 1926, as a special holiday drink, they christened it 'Stella' after the latin for Star. It was such a success They had to start producing it all year round to keep up with the demand.
The official Stella website claims the beer is only brewed with natural ingredients so ive got no idea what causes the Wife baeter effect comes from maybe it is just due to the strength.
Conclusion:
Stella Artois though originally belguim is as much a part of british culture as the Royal family and has as many pro's and cons to boot. I do beleive more research is needed into why this drink makes people violent as most just laugh it off so
easily. With the new 24 hour drinking laws now firmly in place i wonder how sensible this is in reality, with all the problems listed above. The truth is in this country we just cant look after ourselves and on being presented with a drink such as Stella Artois, we abuse it and make the brand and ourselves look negative in the eyes of the rest of our world.
Summary: Warning: Use and Dont abuse..................

- 21/02/06 I really like Stella, but I'm not a mad woman. |

- 21/02/06 I drink Stella, and I'm nothing like what you have described, I drink it because I like the taste. Don't you think that any drink, if over indulged would have the same effect. |
