Advantages: Taste and strength

Disadvantages: price

Known as "wife beater" in some circles Stella Artois is one of the stronger lagers you can buy in the United Kingdom. I must be honest the only time I really drink lager is on a hot day in the summer and even then I would only have the odd bottle of a half pint.

It is marketed as a premium brand lager originating from Belgium, it is certainly a lot stronger than most other tap lagers at just over 5% I think.

It is best served chilled in a long glass in my opinion, I would never drink it straight from the bottle. It has a nice full bodied look to it. Taste wise it can be very refreshing when you have a thirst on and I find that although some lagers can be quite sweet Stella Artois is a slightly more sharper bitter taste to it. What I do like and the reason I drink it is that it does not have a nasty after taste like some of the strong lagers and I also I find that if I do over indulge too much on it which is very rare the hangover is not too bad.

A pint will set you back at least £3 in most places these days.

Summary: premium lager

Although I don't drink lager that often (prefer wine) I do like to have a stella, this may also be because it's the only lager we have stored in our shed fridge! Nicola x
