Stella Artois is a premium continental lager from Leuven (20 kms east of Brussels) in Belgium. It has a 5% ABV and takes it's name "Stella" from the star of Bethlehem as it was originally brewed as a Christmas beer. The name "Artois" comes from Sebastian Artois who founded the brewery.

It has been brewed using the original process that Stella Artois have been using since 1926 and still only contains natural ingredients.

The words "anno1366" on the logo of this beer refer to the fact that Leuven has been a brewing centre since this time and not that the actual drink was first created then.

Appearance -

Stella Arois is a light amber coloured beer which when poured gives a small head which disappears fairly quickly.



Smell -

Inoffensive, malty, slightly sweet, a little stale.



Taste -

To begin with it tastes a little sweet and malty which gives way to a faintly bitter aftertaste. It is however very drinkable and light to my tastebuds.


Stella is available in various different sizes including a 275 ml bottle, a 330 ml bottle,a 50cl can, "La Grande Bière" (568 ml) - I think that this roughly equates a pint size. Also you can buy it on draught in pubs UK and Europe wide.

It is brewed in Belgium, the UK and various other countries including Australia.

Summary: A decent beer to dink on a night out
