Advantages: Gets you wasted?

Disadvantages: Chemically, bad hangover, expensive, bad sie effects

I used to be a big fan of Stella Artois, as I fell for all the marketing and advertising of the brand as a premium lager.

A high alcohol content (5.2%), coupled with a high price, and the history of being a traditional Belgian beer makes you think that you are getting something... 'reassuringly expensive'.

However, in my opinion, you are getting something that tastes like it is full of chemicals, having a very dry taste in your mouth, along with quite a sweet undercurrent.

Behind its light golden colour, and thick head, lies a very strong beer, that through personal experience, can very well live up to its nickname of wife-beater. Obviously not that I have done that, but after too many pints of this larger, I have done some very silly things, and my moods have sometimes hit the obnoxious-aggressive level. I have seen this effect in many other people too in my time working behind pub and nightclub bars.

I don't think it is the high alcohol content that causes this, as other high strength beers such as Budvar, Erdinger and Kronnenberg don't seem to have the same effect. This leads me to believe that it is the chemicals inherent in Stella that cause these unsocial side effects. Oh, and the

Because of this, and the mass produced taste of the beer, it is one I will be avoiding in future. I'd recommend my favourite two beers - Budvar and Erdinger instead. Much better tasting, and without the nast side effects.

Summary: A nasty beer that is not worth the trouble, when there aer much better beers available
