... Bois from the off-licence en-route. I would never have any myself, I'd get my usual alcopops. Once, a friend who was working behind the till told me how much she liked Jacques, despite her hatred for regular cider. She was adamant if I tried it, I would love it too. I'd had bad experiences with cider as a teenager. I don't think it would be necessary for me to elaborate on that. Needless to say, I very rarely touch cider, I'm more of a WKD Blue or Vodka, Lime and Soda kind of girl. Cider is just too strong for me and i...more

Premium Review Strongbow Jacques Fruit Cider: A lovely treat for adults (581 words)

I will be talking about the Jacques Fruits Des Bois Cider With Fruit. Wow, I feel posh after saying that! You've also got Jacques Orchard Fruits Cider With Fruit, but I am yet to try it. I'd first heard of Jacques many months ago when I was working as a secretary and one of my colleagues asked me if I'd tried it. I hadn't a clue what he was talking about; "fruit cider? Isn't all cider made of fruit?" was my incredulous response. A week after that, I was chatting to a friend on the telephone, and she told me her lodger was going to buy some fruit cider, and she wasn't quite sure about it. I of course had been enlightened by my ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Jaques cider a new taste (318 words)

At last I can have a tipple. I have been pregnant for such a long time and it has come now that I have a night off from being a mother and can enjoy a relaxing drink. I stumbled accross this in co-op priced at £1.79 a bottle. The bottle is 750ml and is 5.5% this is strong to be honest. I will only have one glass of this at any time I haven't had a drink for a long time so it will probably go straight to my head if I drink too much. This is a red fruity cider. I am not a cider drinker usually it was my first drink as a youngster and I made myself sick so I have usually stayed away from it the smell will make my stomach churn. This however is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Strongbow Jacques Fruit Cider: The best cider around (269 words)

I'm not much of a cider man, but this caught me eye once in the shops, so I bought a bottle and was pleasantly surprised. This is just the right alcoholic beverage for a hot Summer's night, and puts a lot of other ciders, notably their own regular Strongbow, right to shame. It may not be cheap, at about £3.30 per 750ml bottle (which is almost exactly 1.5 pints), but it does have a volume of 5.5%, which is somewhat higher than most beers. They come in two flavours that I'm aware of - Fruits des bois, and Orchard Fruits. This is a luxuriously fruity drink that's without a doubt best served cold, and it's a wondrously refreshing drink if you're hot during the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The perfect drink for that summer evening (154 words)

Jacques fruit cider is a relatively new drink to the market and is described as a combination of sparkling cider and 13% fruit juice. It has an alcoholic content of 5.5% and is recommended to be served over ice. Jacques is produced under the Strongbow brand in Belgium, but is in fact produced by its sister company, Stassen. The drink certainly represents good value for money, costing just £3 for a 750 millilitre bottle. The drink is available in multiple flavours; however I would recommend the forest fruits cider as this is highly refreshing. The drink is a very summery colour that I would best describe as cherry. In terms of flavour the tasting notes are of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Strongbow Jacques Fruit Cider: It's okay. (236 words)

I've only recently started to like 'Strongbow', and it was a while back that I first tried this. Back then I didn't like it so much, however now I have become to like it, but it isn't something I'm going to rave about. Firstly the taste isn't really anything special. I find that the fruity taste does come through, but it's bland and not really that exciting to drink. I want something that either tastes really good, or has a kick to it, unfortunately this has neither. As far as the alcohol volume, at just 5.5% it's not going to get you drunk if that's what you are after. This is where the drink slightly saves itself for me, because more increasingly ...  Read the complete review
