Having not been much for the Gaymers Pear Cider, I must have been on a mission to try different ones, however it had been recommended to me to try Strongbow Jacques with Fruit. Initially I wasn't reallt that keen on trying it as I never have any blackcurrant or anything like that in my cider, I just have it as it comes.
The Strongbow Jacques comes in a 750ml bottle and is available in two different flavours, however it was the fruit one that was recommended to me so I thought I would try that one first. This cider is produced in Belgium, and to be honest I haven't really seen an advertising campaign for it at all, as when Strongbow launched Sirrus a couple of years ago, they threw a lot of money into that campaign and it was widely recognised, however the only form of marketing that I have noticed on this product is basically on word of mouth and highly recommended by many people that have tasted it.
I'm not sure whether it is worth the money that it costs. At £2.99 a bottle, I thought it was quite expensive and is not something that I would get hooked on all the time because of the amount of money that it costs, however the bottle itself is striking, it doesn't really say a great deal, but it give the impression of qaulity and a more premium product, with an atttractive label and the name Jacques to me adds an air of quality. The bottle itself is clear, so that you can see the colour of the contents which it actually looks like blackcurrant juice, and it has the Jacques logo embossed into the bottle which is a nice feature and is all around the base.
When you smell this product, the only thing that it smells of is fruit, blackcurrant in particular, there is no scent of alcohol in any shape or form, even though the % of this product is 5.5.%.
To taste the product, I have got to give it the thumbs up in some aspects and thumbs down on others. The cider actually just tastes like fizzy blackcurrant juice, there is no taste of cider at all, its like when someone drinks blackcurrant in cider and has gone a little bit overboard with the blackcurrant juice.
It is actually quite addictive in the taste, very sweet and refreshing, and I actually enjoyed it more than what I thought I would. I could imagine though if you drank enough of this, it would get you drunk pretty quick because you can't tell that it is actually alcohol, it just tastes like pop, which for some people isn't a good thing. At least the price per bottle stops the younger generation from buying it as I am sure this would be a popular drink with them but with the costly price tag on it I believe it would prevent them from buying it.
This itself is a summer drink and with the weather being nice at the moment, it is really refreshing and nice to drink in the garden. I would definitely recommend to try this at least once. I won't be forking out £2.99 very often but will make sure that I buy this again as a little bit of a treat.
