Advantages: not too pricey, smooth, tasty
Disadvantages: bit sweet
I do like a tipple at the weekend but with the price of decent wine going higher and higher at the moment I decided to try a change - I have not had strongbow for a very long time and a change is as good as a rest so they say!
This cost me £3.50 for 4 cans in my local tesco express at the weekend. It comes in a large ring pull can , mainly black with some silver and gold and the traditional picture of an archer. It says on the can - serve with ice.
Info
1 can contains 2.3 uk units of alcohol - the recomended daily allowance for women is 2-3 units and for men it is 3-4. The can I bought contained 440ml and 5.3%alcohol. The apples used to make this cider are bitter sweet ones, according to the can .
What is it like
On friday I ignored the advice and poured some chilled cider into a glass. It has a nice smooth feel to it when you take a sip - not the indigestion invoking feel you get from some cheaper alternatives. It is dryer than I expected but also quite sharp initially- this actually tastes very pleasant in my opinion, though not as nice as my favourite cider it is a decent alternative. It is slightly fizzy but not so much it keeps "repeating on you" and it has no nasty after taste. My only complaint is it is a little too sweet for me to drink regularly - though I still managed 2 cans on friday night and 2 on saturday!
On saturday I tried this over ice - in my opinion it does not taste nearly as nice as simply chilled - bit too cold and the ice cubes with the cider dont work for me.
For me this made a pleasant change - not as heavy as wine and not as expensive and I shall be having cider a little more often now I think.
Summary: Decent cider for a decent price
