Lazy summer days = Cider (Strongbow)

Advantages: Cheap and a nice taste, readily available

Disadvantages: One can is your recommended units

In the age of the credit crunch a lot of us are looking for cheaper alternatives on our nights in and out, the pub trade is rapidly declining and I don't go out as often as I used too, partly due to getting older and partly to save some cash.

Now I am a lightweight when it comes to alcohol, I blame this on the fact that I am 5ft 1 and 3/4.

Being a light weight has its advantages though, it means I can get tipsy for less than some other people.

My main drink of choice is Vodka, normally Vodka and Red Bull but unless I am in a wetherspoons pub its pretty expensive to drink that so my 2nd choice is normally Strongbow.

The main reason for this is you can get a pint for normally under £3, a pint is going to last me a lot longer than a mixer ob average a pint can last me a hour or more and normally after 2 pints I am already on the floor so it is a really cheap night out!

I don't like beer so my only other option in a pub is cider, when purchasing from a pub you can normally purchase standard Strongbow or Strongbow Extra Cold, I prefer the latter and most pubs now offer it with ice (following the Magners trend).

If you wish to purchase the drink to have at home you can purchase it in cans and bottles and can pick from standard Strongbow, Strongbow Super which is 7.5% and Strongbow Sirrus which is designed to be more like Magners and more suitable for serving over ice.

Super is only available in cans and Sirrus is only available in bottles.

Standard Strongbow in a can is 5.3% and 4.5% draft as you get more in the pint than a can.

A can consists of 3 units which is the higher recommended daily limit for women and the lower limit for women, lets be honest though most people will have more than one can!

Strongbow has a very crisp taste to it,its not as sweet as you might expect it to be, compared to a apple juice its much drier, it is refreshing though and perfect for long lazy summer days.

If you prefer a sweeter taste than Magners is probably better for you but I feel that Strongbow is a good adult cider compared to some of the other options available which teenagers may have given a bad name too,

It can also normally be found on good offers in your local supermarket, I have just purchased 15 cans for £10 which will last me a couple of weekends.

Summary: A great summer drink especially in the pub garden
