Advantages: Thirst Quenching, Affordable, Good Initial Taste

Disadvantages: Taste Quickly Disappears, Watery, Not Like Real Cider

I don't know why I thought having a strongbow was a good idea, but apparently I must have had my reasons. Normally I'm a scrumpy Jack kind of man, and I do like a bit of the old real cider where possible too (you know, the sulphite free stuff that doesn't come in a can lol).

Price wise this is one of the more affordable brand names though, so I think it suits a lot of people on that basis alone. 4 x 440ml cans is only £3 in Tesco, which is a middle of the road price to pay for cider these days. There are cheaper ciders available, but there are considerably more expensive ones out there too.

The first thing I notice about Strongbow that marks it out as being that tiny bit different to other brands, is that it really is very thirst quenching. That's great on a hot summer's night, if want you want is the equivilant to an alcoholic squash, but ordinarily it's not what I really look for in a cider. I think this is a bit watery to an extent, and the fizz is too bubbly and thick with this too.

I like that there's a mixture of sweet and sour flavours in this, as that just what I expect in my cider taste wise. Where this lets itself down a bit is in the longevity of the taste though. You take a swig and all is well, then you swallow and the taste is gone almost instantly.

At 5.3% alcohol content, I think this is risky business for some of the younger drinkers. The taste is so thin, watery and passing that it's easy to drink this stuff in large quantities without realising just how much you've had. At least with a decent lager or cider, you can taste how much you're getting through.

I don't recommend this, because I'm just not a fan. I think it's too watery, and that little bit too far removed from what cider is really supposed to be. But I think it deserves three stars anyway, and I can understand why others like it. It's just not for me.

Summary: Not For Me

I'd never buy this from a shop as there's always something better on offer, but I'll have a pint when out if there's nothing else.
