Advantages: Cheap and good for those who want a sweet-but-not-too-sugary drink

Disadvantages: Beer drinkers might not be so inclined

I must admit to not being a huge Cider fan, but I've given Strongbow the odd go, particularly if it's on offer from a friend for free or something. Strongbow is probably the most well known Cider in the world, and is the cheapest brand name for sure, unless you're willing to debase yourself to something as purile as Frosty Jack's or White Lightning, both of which taste like motor oil.

You can buy 4-packs for often less than £3 if you shop around, and Strongbow also sell pint cans now, which obviously are a little more expensive, but still extremely good value if you're a fan of Cider. What I will say for Strongbow is that it is very much a "Summer Cider" - it's very cool and quite refreshing, but I'm just not too fond of the taste, which tastes like a more gassy, cabonated version of Apple Juice, and looks like it also (no surprise considering Cider is made from Apples, of course). I also think it's too cloying and saccharine for my own tastes, but I can imagine it being a favourite of anyone who finds the taste of beer or ale generally too strong or putrid.

There is something to be said for its strength, also - at 5.3% (recently upgraded from, I believe, 4.8%), it is a fair bit stronger than the majority of lagers. Ultimately, this 3-star rating is an objective one - I'm not hugely fond of it, but I realise that it's good for people who prefer their alcohol a bit sweeter, but perhaps not quite as sugary as, say, an alcopop. It's also great value generally, so take from that what you will.
