Advantages: Fairly cheap, readily available, refreshing
Disadvantages: Synthetic apple taste
Strongbow is possibly the most commercially available cider in this country. Most pubs and bars stock it, and as a cider drinker rather than a beer drinker, this is what I find myself drinking most often.
It's not my favourite cider. To be honest it's not a great quality cider, but in many places it's all that is on offer. And it's not a bad way to get into cider. This is quite a dry cider and the smell and taste of Strongbow is quite synthetic and chemically. I find that the drink itself is often over carbonated, especially when on draught.
I have found that Strongbow is quite refreshing. I wouldn't necessarily say it provides 'first pint refreshment' as it says in the adverts, but on a hot and sunny day, an ice cold Strongbow will hit the spot. Mind you, for me, any ice cold cider will hit the spot on a hot and sunny day.
Oddly enough, I often find that Strongbow in cans is tastier and more refreshing than the draught cider. It sometimes has a tendency to pick up a slightly metallic taste of the cans, but I find that this is less pronounced with Strongbow than lagers.
Overall, Strongbow isn't a great cider, especially not after you've tasted a scrumpy cider. For seasoned cider drinkers and cider aficionados it's not a brilliant drink, but often all that is on offer. It's a good way to get into drinking cider, and it is refreshing.
Remember, always drink responsibly.
Summary: A good way to get into cider, and acceptable if there is no alternative
