Advantages: tastes nice and low in sugar
Disadvantages: doesn't seem to work for me
There are many opinions as the weather any of the typical energy drinks work. Some people swear by them to help keep themselves focused and others think they are a waste of money. Over the past year or so I have tried many of energy drinks from the most expensive to the cheapest supermarkets own makes. To be completely honest the best energy drink I have came across has to be a one called relentless. Its works well and tastes good but does nothing for your tummy if you are on a diet. So off I go in search of an energy drink that is sugar free. When out shopping I came across the sugar free red bull.
The description:
The sugar free version of the red bull comes in a chequered light blue and silver can with the typical red bull logo on it. The can size is 250ml.
What is red bull?
Red bull is an energy drink, which contains taurine and caffeine. It has been developed to increase mental and physical performance and aids with concentration levels as well as stimulating the metabolism. Red bull can be drank alone as well as being used as a mixer for alcoholic drinks, such as vodka.
The taste:
Normal full sugar red bull has a very fruity tangy taste and this is what I enjoy in an energy drink, however the sugar free version is still tasty but not as tangy and you can definitely notice the lack of sugar, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The drink is still completely acceptable and of course the health benefits are a lot better without all of the sugar.
Does it work?
To be honest I would have to say no. After one can of red bull, I didn't real feel any different. I didn't feel any more alert but I did have a bit of a headache, which I put down to the high caffeine content. I decided to try this product a few more times to see if I could get a better result, unfortunately I couldn't. I do like the taste of this however I don't feel that it does anything it is supposed to accept give bad heads and sleepless nights. I have tried energy drinks in the past that hasn't given me headaches so maybe it is just this one.
The price:
Sugar free red bull costs about £1.05 a can. I can understand as to why the price is high considering red bull is one of the most common names for energy drinks. I would advise that I have tasted cheaper drinks such as asdas blue charge and found them to be more effective with less side effects.
Overall:
Tastes nice but I wouldn't be buying this in the future. There is plenty of other energy drinks out there that work even better for a fraction of the price.
Summary: I wouldn't buy this drink again as there are cheaper, better brands around

- 17/05/09 I wouldn't touch the stuff- my favourite has to be full fat coca cola, but now I have bad toothache and know I'm gonna need at least 2 fillings (my friend said it might need root canal work!!) I'm sticking to coffee and water for now :( |
