Advantages: Wake up!

Disadvantages: Can be a bit watery, lots of sweeteners, high caffiene, price

After a lovely relaxing weekend, for some reason I was shattered when I got up this morning.

Staggered into work yawning, and decided that an energy drink was required at lunchtime!! Normally I buy the supermarket's own brand energy drinks, being a lot cheaper and tasting nice in my opinion. But the newsagent didn't really have much choice, so it was either a large can of Relentless (which I'll get round to trying one day), or some kind of Red Bull.

I've been trying to cut down on sugar recently, which has been completely unsuccessful, but I have had moments where I've chosen something low sugar or sugarfree...hence this Red Bull.

A lot of my friends are into energy drinks and scorn anything that isn't 'proper' Red Bull or Relentless, but I'm up for trying new things.

The sugarfree Red Bull comes in a light blue and silver can. At 250ml in a tall, thin can, it looks to me like you get more than in a short, chunky 330ml can...of course you don't, but it's good psychologically! (I always was terrible at spatial awareness).

One can cost me £1.25, which is hideously expensive compared to own brand varieties that aren't from a corner shop, but desperate times...

Tasting it, it's much milder than regular energy drinks. It also loses that horrible thick syrupy texture which seems to stick to your teeth - I often drink energy drinks with water because of that, but didn't need to with sugarfree Red Bull. However, the taste is also quite a lot weaker, and is almost watery in places. It's still sweet though thanks to the sweeteners.

I still feel a little tired, but then I haven't finished the can yet, and the compromise on taste is definitely worth it to me because of the lack of sugar-coating my teeth.

This product has a high amount of caffiene in, and it does contain a lot of sweetners and flavourings, so one for occasional buying I think.

Overall, pretty pleasant, and nicer than the snobs would have you think!

Summary: Pretty good, but I'll be on the lookout for sugarfree own brands

Even with sugar, this thing never seemed to work for me. It actually makes me feel tired!

Ah, I remember the days when a double vodka and Red Bull was my drink of choice. xx
