“ Beverages Type: Soft Drinks / Manufacturer: Sunsip „
In our house we like our fair share of soft drinks. It is for this reason that I'm always looking for something new to try to save us the money. When doing my Tesco shop recently I spotted these sunsip drinks and decided that for just 39P they were worth a try and I ended up buying two bottles which I figured I could always give to my nieces and nephews if I didn't like them.
This cola comes provided in a plastic recyclable bottle. There is nothing very special about this product it is standard in appearance to any other similar soft drink. The bottle is clear and has a label, in silver red and white, showing you all have the usual nutritional information, ingredients and company information. There is nothing special about this bottle, but it does not look particularly cheap either.
When opening the bottle there is a hiss and a fizz as you would expect. The drink is a sugary sweet treat and is best served chilled from the fridge, however, if you are short on time then you can simply pour this over some ice cubes for a refreshing treat. I also find that this cola makes a lovely mixer, particularly with vodka and whisky. Once open this will only stay fizzy for around a day. This is the main disappointment for me as I am the only person in our household who likes to drink diet cola. However, as this is only around 40P per bottle I don't really mind if some of this goes to waste.
I must say that this cola is very similar to a more expensive brand that I can think of and I shall be continuing to purchase this. I love this cola and have been very pleased with the quality of this drink. This is only improved by the fact that this drink contains zeros sugar, zero calories and zero fat. However, this drink does contain aspartame which some people try to actively avoid. For the money paid, the quality and the lack of calories and sugar I am very pleased with this cola of drink and will continue to shop at Tesco and buy this on a regular basis. The main thing that I like about this drink is that it keeps me refreshed and hydrated and does not make me feel thirsty after I've finished a glass like some other colas do.
Sunsip Diet Cola is one of Tesco's latest cut price 'budget brands'. The idea seems to be that they're selling Tesco Value equivilent products, at Tesco Value prices - but without having to actually write 'Tesco Value' anywhere on the product! Obviously this is a marketing ploy to break away from the stigma that can be attached to having Tesco Value branded products in your kitchen cupboards.
This particular brand definitely looks a lot smarter in the cupboard than a bottle of Tesco Value cola would do! The price is almost as friendly too, at 39p for a 2lt bottle. Better still, this stuff actually tastes like... cola! Not Tesco Value Cola, but drinkable, tasty cola. The diet version is quite similar in taste to Diet Coke, though obviously cola buffs will be able to taste the difference even so.
There's a very wet taste to this, which might sound like an unusual thing to say - but some diet colas can be very dry and not at all thirst-quenching. There's enough of a sweet taste to make this appealing, without being too artificial or overly syrupy. I do like it as a soft drink on it's own, but I've also found that this stuff is brilliant for use as a mixer with spirits too. It blends well and enhances the flavour of the spirit - I especially liked it with Captain Morgans.
The only thing that lets this otherwise brilliant product down is the shelf-life. It stores well in the fridge for an evening, and stays fizzy for about 24hrs after opening. Anything longer than 24hrs and you will notice a sharp decline in fizz though. If you're hoping for a cola that will last for a few days, this might not be the best brand for you. But if you're looking for a cheap but tasty cola to use up for parties or evenings spent entertaining guests - this stuff is perfect and brilliant value for money too of course.
