Advantages: Wake up juice, Extreme caffeine kick, Surprisingly smooth

Disadvantages: Not an evening drink, Not for the caffeine-sensitive

I work in the IT industry, where this coffee tends to be the favorite, partly because of it's high caffeine content (trust me, when you're writing code late into the night, you NEED high caffeine), and partly just because it's got the word Java in the name.

I'm fairly new to the coffee drinking world - being British I was the typical 'I refuse to face the world before a cup of tea' type. I'd tried the typical coffees you get when you visit your parents (Nescafé, Kenco and the like) and frankly wasn't impressed. The flavour was bland, the taste uninspiring. Then, arriving at work one day with a raging hangover, I was introduced to an instant coffee called Rocket Fuel. I was instantly a coffee addict, and that night I bought a proper coffee maker and some Hot Lava Java.

Next morning, I had my first shot at it, and I was far from disappointed. Very strong, with an extreme caffeine kick, this stuff leaves mud at the bottom of the cup (I've now picked up the habit of stirring half way through to whip up the extra caffeine). The taste was enough to wake my mouth, but was surprisingly smooth, especially given the intense caffeine hit this stuff gives you. I arrived at work invigorated and ready for the day, and have been doing ever since.

I would strongly recommend this coffee to anyone who needs a boost in the morning. However, DO NOT drink this in the evening, at least not if you plan to get any sleep. I had a cup at around 9pm, and I was still awake at 3am, not even ready for sleep yet.

This is easily one of the best ground coffees I've tasted, and it certainly has the desired effect. Buy it. Buy it now.

Sounds good. But when I drink at least two mugs of coffee at a time it could be dangerous.

I like my expresso myself, triple expresso from my stove top pot and I'm away.

Think I'd better avoid this - I have enough trouble sleeping as it is!
