Advantages: Satisfying, full-bodied and complex

Disadvantages: None

Having been pleased with other Tailor's coffee, I thought that this would be a good coffee to try next. I bought it at Waitrose, and it was around £2.50 for a 227g pack I think, though I can't remember exactly. That is about an average price for a bag of coffee I think. It is labeled as a strength 4, and I would say that is about right, it is definitely a good bit stronger than their Cafe Imperial. I made some for my housemate, and he said he thought it was quite strong, though he rarely drinks any coffee and is perhaps not a good judge, though he did enjoy it. I didn't think it was greatly different in strength than many of the weaker strength 5 types, but I suppose it can vary depend on brewing times and amount used. The coffee has a good complex rich flavour, very satisfying, and not at all bitter. I think I would describe it as smooth, though their Cafe Imperial is smoother. When brewed a bit longer this coffee seemed to share some of the lightly astringent acidic notes that the Cafe Imperial had, which was pleasantly refreshing. I couldn't detect any bitter notes in this coffee, which is a good thing too. I thought it had a much rounder complete flavour than the Taylor's Lava Java coffee, and a nicer aroma. I have tried using it in the espresso machine but it didn't work particularly well, it certainly makes a terrific brew in the cafetiere though, and I imagine it would do similarly in a filter machine too. I wouldn't buy this if you were intending on making espressos. If you use a cafetiere or a similar way to make your coffee then I would recommend it fully, providing that you like your coffee strongish.

Summary: A good example of how a rich coffee should be done.
