Advantages: a strong coffee to help wake you up no bitterness
Disadvantages: packaging not recyclable
A good cup of coffee is one of my many weakness and I don't believe in having caffeine free with it whats the point. If I want caffeine free fir example on a night I will have a herbal tea. Caffeine free coffee is just plain wrong and coffee that's bean mucked around with.
Now Taylors of Harrogate is one of my favorite makers of coffee and as they own Bettys to It is easy for me to pop into t get some freshly ground coffee to have but failing that I will buy these packets from the supermarket.
Rich Italian nowadays does look a bit different from the picture shown.
The Packet
*************
The package is green and yellow with what I assume is the manufacturer trying to depict an Italian scene of Hills It tells you that it is a Dark roast, 4 (strength guide up to 5) It is a foil fresh bag to retain it's freshness for longer after purchase. But this packaging isn't recyclable.

The taste test
************
I make the coffee in a cafetiere and use to scoops of coffee for a 8 cup cafetiere. To not let the coffee become "burnt" i allow the kettle once it has boiled to cool slightly for 2-3 minutes. As you put the coffee in the cafetiere you get the lovely dark aroma of the this coffee. I allow this to "Brew" for a few minutes and then plunge the coffee. I take this coffee with milk. The smell is that warm smell that reminds you of earth when it has been turned in the rain. The taste of this coffee is deep and velvety there is no bitterness which can often be the case with the more fuller strength coffee's instead you are left with a lingering taste, which reminds you of a proper coffee made in Italy from one of their posh coffee machines. You can feel the caffeine kick in and get the buzz of this coffee fairly quickly and I think for this reason it is a good wake you cup of coffee or to help you get over a hangover coffee.
Where from
**********
I have seen this coffee for sale in Tescos Sainsburys and Waitrose as well as it been available on line form Taylors of Harrogate. The average price of this coffee is £2.65. I think this represents great value for a gusty cup of coffee.
Summary: a strong coffee with a lovely aroma and no bitterness

- 12/06/09 I asked my wife if she fancied a Rich Italian. Her face lit up until she realised I was talking about coffee... Nice review (again) |
