“ Manufacturer: Tesco / Type: Energydrinks „
I really like energy and isotonic drinks - though probably for the completley wrong reason - and that is that I just love the taste!
I tend to buy powerade, however this is quite pricey as when you buy singuarly they are around £1-£2 a bottle. Though when I spotted that Tesco did their own range in their own flavours (raspberry, orange, tropical, cherry) I decided that I'd purchase a pack of 4 raspberry and 4 orange as they were on offer of two packs of 4 for £3. This is effectivley 8 isotonic drinks for £3.
The drink itself is in a clear, plastic bottle and the colour of the drink is a yellowy - orange colour.
It has a 'sports cap' which means the drink doesn't leak thta much due to it being quite tightly sealed.
On initial tate the drink does taste quite sweet and you can't really taste any of the fruit tastes due to the overall sweetness of the drink, however as you continue to drink you begin to taste fruits in the drink. The most noticable flavours to me are that of orange and pineapple which gives the drink quite a refreshing and summery taste to it.
Due to the drink being quite refreshing it does mean that you do feel rehydrated after drinking it, however I found that you did need to drink quite a lot of the drink in one go before feeling refreshed.
Overall I really like the taste of this drink, even if it is a little sweet, it is a great alternative to the more expensive brands, especially if you are counting your pennies!
I am totally addicted to energy drinks and isotonic drinks. I drink alot of energy drinks out of pure addiction and I'm not sure they really work but isotonic drinks I like for when I'm at the gym to replenish lost fluids....and I do sweat so therefore think they're helpful to me!
500ml clear plastic bottle with ridges all over it so it's easy to grip. The top of the bottle has a pull up and down function to reveal a small hole to drink out of it making it very easy to handle when in the gym, jogging or whatever. Around the middle of the bottle there is a black label and on there, there is a picture in green of what appears to be a man playing football and then in white and green writing I'm told it is Tesco Active Isotonic Sports Drink 'Tropical' and that it contains no artificial colours or flavours and there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there. Other information on the back of the label includes ingredients and allergy advice, nutritional information is fully given, storage details are listed and contact details for Tesco are given.
Light orange in colour and it's like a flat squash in appearance. It has a light and slightly sweet tropical smell to it and is of course a watery drink but it's very highly flavoured.
Taste wise I really do like this. To me it has a taste of orange, mangos and pineapple to it that isn't zesty. The drink is incredibly sweet with a slight tang of salt to it and you have to remember this drink is to replenish lost fluids and quench thirst opposed to being a tasty drink and the thing about this is when I'm all hot and bothered this tastes really good but any other time it doesn't! I highly recommend this for sporty/active people and at 37p a bottle this offers really good value for money and it really does work for me at not only quenching my thirst but lifting my energy levels slightly due to it being full of glucose.

I've always been quite fond of isotonic drinks but since starting university this fondness has grown considerably, as they are brilliant for drinking in lectures. The well-known isotonic/sports drink brands such as Lucozade are however rather expensive and can cost anywhere up to £1.20 per bottle, which to me is more than a little overboard. For this reason I have looked for alternative brands and that's when I came across Tesco active isotonic sports drinks, which is at 37p a fraction of the price.
These drinks come in a plastic bottle that has a sort of handgrip feature. I can therefore see how they are easily suited to those participating in sports. The bottle itself has a sports cap again making it perfect for whilst participating in sports but also just as good for stopping you spilling juice down your front whilst listening to someone speak. The bottle itself is clear meaning that you can see the colourful liquid through the bottle, orangey in my case seeing as I am reviewing the tropical flavour. Round the middle is a thin black label with the outline of a footballer printed on it in green. The label also contains the information that the drink is suitable for vegetarians, as well as all the relevant allergy advice, ingredients lists and nutritional values.
Ingredient wise this drink contains all the sorts of stuff you would expect to find in an isotonic drink. It contains all the same preservatives, stabilisers, antioxidants etc as the Lucozade brand and therefore should in theory taste just as nice and be just as good / bad, depending on your opinion, for you.
500ml of the drink, which by the way is the size of the bottle, contains:
130 - Calories (7% of RDA)
30.1g - Sugar (33% of RDA)
Trace - Fat
Trace - Saturates
0.6g - Salt (10% of RDA)
As well as this it also contains 31% RDA of Vitamin B2, 25% RDA of Vitamin B6, 20% of RDA of Vitamin B12 and 17% of RDA of Niacin.
Now I will admit that the sugar content in this drink is quite high and therefore it should not be drunk in large quantities especially when not doing any sort of sport. It is however very refreshing to drink and because of this I find that I don't need to drink the whole bottle to have had my thirst thoroughly quenched and therefore 1 bottle will sometimes last me two days, as I do also drink water whilst at university as well.
Taste wise the drink is exceptionally fruity and is refreshing from the moment is touches your mouth. Furthermore I have found that it doesn't have a sharp after taste like some sports drinks and therefore is even more enjoyable to drink. The blend of tropical fruits, which if my taste buds serve me correctly includes Orange, mango and quite possibly pineapple, really works well and overall serves up a very tasty drink.
Like I have mentioned earlier in this review I would not advice that you drink this drink in large quantities, as just because it is a sports drink it doesn't mean it is automatically healthy for you. Even the bottle promotes the phrase "Can promote fitness only as part of a healthy lifestyle and fitness regime". I am not saying however that you should only drink this whilst at the gym, out running or participating in any other type of sport because it is a delicious drink and due to the fact that it is an isotonic I do feel that it gives you a little buzz when you need it most.
In conclusion I would highly recommend this drink but again stress that it probably wouldn't be wise to drink large quantities of it because of the sugar content. For this reason and this reason alone I am therefore only going to give this product 4/5 stars.
