Advantages: Tastes good, price is rigth
Disadvantages: packaging if you are a snob! LOL!
The question is - are you a snob? If you are you probably wouldn’t dream of buying anything from the Tesco Value range with its distinctive packaging for all to see in your trolley! Well I’m not ashamed of buying good value products however garish the packaging and I am even prepared to tell you about it!
Tesco do a range of ‘value’ pure fruit drinks including apple, orange and grapefruit. They may also do pineapple too, but as I find this too sickly I didn’t really notice. I’ll have a look for you next time I’m in there.
Since we were expecting guests I decided to stock up on fruit juices including apple juice, which isn’t normally a favourite of mine, but my Goddaughter loves it.
The Tesco Pure Value Apple Juice comes complete with the same ‘value’ packaging, as every other product in the ‘value’ range and that is white with a series of blue vertical stripes and the word ‘value’ in bright red! This is where the snob factor comes into play, because, as you walk round your local Tesco’s pushing your trolley, it is obvious to everyone if you’ve purchased any ‘value’ items!
Personally this isn’t a problem for me, I like to get good value for money and I couldn’t care less how it’s packaged!
The Tesco Value Apple Juice currently retails at 58p per litre carton as opposed to other pure apple juices, which range from 88p up to 99p per litre.
It is a smooth juice - that is it doesn’t have ‘bits’ in it, as some of them do these days. It is a light brown clear liquid not unlike whisky in appearance.
As with any product where the price is low, it isn’t good value unless it tastes good and this one does.
My Goddaughter enjoyed it as a drink instead of drinking fizzy pop all the time, so I was very happy about that.
As I say I don’t normally drink apple juice but I did try this in the interest of research and, as apple juice goes, it is very nice. It is smooth with a good flavour of apple (surprised eh? LOL!) without being bitter. It even smells good too.
I found it really useful to pour over fresh fruit salad, which I find can be a bit dry without some added fruit juice. I usually use either orange or pink grapefruit but I tried it with apple juice and was very impressed.
It has all the nutrition that you would expect from fresh apples, so apart from tasting good it is actually good for you too, so what more can you ask?
The drink is made purely from apple juice, no added water, sugar, in fact no added anything. This means that the only sugar it contains is the sugar occurring naturally in the fruit.
Whilst still sealed the apple juice lasts for months but, once opened, must be stored in the refrigerator and consumed within three days.
So, in conclusion, it’s another great value juice! It tastes good, smells nice and it’s a good price. So, as I said in the orange juice opinion, providing you aren’t a snob with a delicate image to protect, why pay more money for what is basically the same product? After all once you’ve squeezed the juice out of the apple, it’s going to taste just the same whatever the packaging and price!
Summary: A great tasting drink at a good price
