Advantages: Tasty and refreshing, cheap

Disadvantages: Awkward to open

When it comes to apple juice don't you find that most of them taste the same? Obviously if you're spending £2 - £3 on a very premium brand then you'll get a fresher and more natural flavour, but for the most part we will buy our apple juice in long life cartons or at the cheaper end of the chilled juice market.

This is where Tesco Value Apple Juice is on hand to save you some money with a 1 litre carton costing just 56p, or for lunchboxes you can buy a pack of three 200ml cartons for around 45p.

The juice is extremely refreshing in my opinion and has a natural apple flavour, it's a lovely smooth juice which has a delicious sweetness that is typical of this fruit. To my mind it has the specific flavour of red apples and the drink is much smoother and easier to drink than I had first imagined it would be when I begun buying this brand.

I do find that it needs a good chilling before drinking as if drunk at room temperature I find the flavour to be too reminiscent of flat cider, which is true of many long life apple juices. After it has been chilled for an hour or so the juice becomes much easier to drink and is very thirst quenching and fresh tasting, particularly when drunk through a straw for some strange reason.

I don't usually mention the packaging on food reviews, but I will just let you know that the corner you need to pull to open the carton is a nightmare for someone with arthritic hands such as myself. It's stuck down with what appears to be superglue and once I've pried it away from the body of the carton it's very hard to cut the flap straight to enable you to pour the juice out without making a complete mess. For this reason I always decant this particular apple juice into a jug to keep in the freezer, which is a pain really as the jug takes up much more room than the carton does.

Still, this minor inconvenience isn't worth me moaning about. For the price you are getting a deliciously fresh and tasty apple juice which is roughly half the price of the next cheapest juice available, and who can complain at that?

Summary: A delicious and refreshing apple juice for a cheap price.
