Advantages: Cheap, tastes good

Disadvantages: Too much sugar

I first decided to buy Tesco Value Apple Juice because it is cheap. I am aware that some Tesco Value products are very poor quality, but fortunately this one didn't come into that category. I paid just 56p for it, so I was happy to take the risk.

The packaging is very cheap and not very sturdy. You have to cut the corner off in order to pour out the apple juice and holding the carton just a bit too tight made it collapse and spew out apple juice in all directions. I was soaked in it and it had run down onto my shoes, much to the delight of my dog as he inspected the spoils and started licking up the apple juice. Well, I thought, he likes it.

Anyway, I eventually poured myself a glass of juice without spilling any more. It is a golden, rusty brown colour, much like the colour apples go if you cut them and leave them standing for a while. It is clear and doesn't have any bits of fruit in it. At this point I was not expecting much of this product but it tasted quite nice. The flavour is not really very 'appley', and it did have a slight tang of cider to it, but it was still drinkable.

I didn't find that this kept for very long once opened. I drank it for two days but by the third day it seemed to have a 'fermenting' kind of aroma so I threw it away. It probably would have been fine but it doesn't take much to put me off.

There is a lot of sugar in this Apple Juice and I did find it a bit too sweet, even though I have a sweet tooth. A quick look at the ingredients panel on the box told my why. 100mls has 11.4g of sugar and that is a lot.

It is a pity that this product is not healthier when it comes to sugar intake, but apart from that I found it excellent value and I would buy it again now that I know how to open it without getting it all over the place.

Summary: Not a healthy fruit juice drink, too much added sugar.
