Advantages: reasonably priced, suitable for vegetarians, easy to understand instructions
Disadvantages: sachets of chocolate topping difficult to open/save for next one
Tesco’s hot drink Cappuccino comes in 2 flavours: -
Sweetened and unsweetened
Each box costs about £1.05 and contains 10 sachets of cappuccino mix and 10 sachets of chocolate flavoured topping.
The Sweetened version is rather creamy with only a slightly frothy top. Unlike the Nescafe tube, the sachets of chocolate topping do not spread evenly as they are in small silver sachets which do not tear easily and the topping seems to stick to the sides of the sachet. The chocolate then seems to slowly sink rather than float and makes a mess of the bottom of the mug or cup being used.
The ingredients used are Cappuccino Mix (92%) which comprises of Sugar, Dried Skimmed Milk, Instant Coffee (17%), Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Lactose, Whey Powder, Milk Protein, Stabiliser (Disodium Phosphate), and Flavouring. Unfortunately the flavourings are not broken down and it is not clear if there are any e numbers to avoid.
The Chocolate Flavoured topping (7%) ingredients used are sugar, Whole Milk Powder and Cocoa Powder. As I am sure most of you are now asking why these 2 percentages do not add up, I can only suggest and surmise that the further 1% needed to complete the 100% is the hot water added.
This drink states that it is suitable for vegetarians but looking closer at the contents of the ingredients it is not suitable for diabetics or those on a diet as the highest ingredient is Sugar but there is also Lactose which is a form of sugar. I wonder what the unsweetened version is like and how it compares with the above – will have to try it sometime.
It is highly recommended that you store this in a cool, dry place – as the box and the sachets are only made of paper this could get damp easily and spoil the drink.
The preparation guidelines are easy to understand i.e. Empty sachet of cappuccino mix contents into a mug, add ¼ pint of hot, not boiling, water while stirring. Sprinkle the topping onto the froth.

I would recommend this drink but I prefer the Nescafe version because:
1. Nescafe has a better, tastier chocolate topping
2. Less mess – the chocolate topping in the silver sachets is difficult to spread evenly and can spill onto the work surface when opening.
This is priced at £1.27 at my local Tesco’s and each serving is 55 calories, which has 2g of saturated fats and a trace of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and a trace of fibre.
