Advantages: Lovely Flavour

Disadvantages: None for me

I usually like to have a few different flavoured bottles of squash in stock at home, because everyone likes different things. My youngest son loves the dark coloured squashes, like blackcurrant, whereas his older siblings prefer orange or pineapple. One drink they all love though, is the Cherries and Berries variety, which comes in a big 1.5 litre bottle from Tesco. The bottle costs £1.35 on its own or you can mix and match 2 bottles for £2.50 for a titchy 20p saving!

The bottle is supposed to contain 60 servings, as the squash is concentrated. They recommend one part squash to nine parts water. I find that in practice, it doesn't actually work out that way, and I still use almost as much as I would with normal squash. I think 40 servings is more realistic, and I find that a bottle will last about a week in our house, which is a lot longer than a bottle of Robinsons, which would only last a couple of days!

I like the fact that the squash has no added sugar, although I am aware of the dangers of consuming too many artificial sweeteners, in this case Aspartame and Sodium Saccharin. This means that the drink is low calorie, at 5 cals per serving and won't be too harsh on teeth, although the only drink that is truly safe on teeth is pure water.

The colour of the squash could be described as deep red or pale purple, exactly the colour you would expect for a Cherry/berry flavoured drink. Although the colour is quite strong, the drink contains no artificial colours or flavours.

I like to dilute the squash with sparkling water, but it really is a matter of personal taste. The squash has a very sweet taste, which would appeal to kids and adults with a sweet tooth. The dominant flavour is definitely raspberry, with a touch of apple and I must confess that I don't get much cherry flavour coming through at all. The drink is lovely, light and refreshing and really quenches your thirst. The drink contains 22% apple juice, 2% cherry, 1% raspberry and 1% strawberry, which I think is a good level of juice for a squash, as many squash products only contain 10% fruit juice. Despite the overwhelming sweetness, the squash tastes quite natural and not at al chemical or artificial. The label states that the product has been improved and now contains 30% more fruit juice than before.

The bottle should be recycled where facilities exist.

Tesco Cherries and Berries is certainly as good as the big branded squashes and is suitable for drinking at any time. I like to dilute it down and put it in the kids bottles for lunch at school. It would also go well with a meal. I also like to freeze it and make lollies in summer.

If you like sweet, fruity flavours then this is a nice alternative to the heavier blackcurrant sqaushes. Everyone in our family likes the taste and it is a real favourite.

Summary: Very Sweet and Summery.
