Advantages: It tastes really nice
Disadvantages: It has more sugar than a bag of sugar
On my ever questing search for that fizzy hit my son and I stumbled upon Tesco's cream soda in the 3 for £1.20 deal at Tesco's.
You could either have three Cream Sodas or add other such classics as Ginger Beer, Cloudy Lemonade, Tropical (Lilt take off) and that strangely wonderful Dandelion and Burdock - all available in full sugar or diet versions but I digress as it's the full sugar Cream Soda we chose and bunged it in the fridge to chill down.
The following day upon arriving home from a particularly harrowing new school uniforms trip (I'm trying to be keen and get it done early- so's everyone else tho!) We headed for the fridge and poured out three cool glasses of clear fizz.
It bubbled nicely and gave off a sweet vanilla scent that instantly made my tastebuds tingle. I had concerns that this would be "thick" tasting on my throat and therefore not at all refreshing but these were quickly calmed when I took a good gulp....and gulp it we did, "licious" said my daughter "mmmmm" said my son and "ahh" said I.
It was lovely, very moreish and not too sweet at all. There is a slight thickness or coating on the tongue which I imagine would be much worse without the strong carbonated fizz or if this was consumed warm. But we did neither, it was chilled fizzy, delicately scented and it made a nice change from the normal lemonade or coke.
So what does it look like?
Well actually it looks a lot like the tesco's own brand lemonade purest clear and with almost exactly the same kind of label. Side by side in my fridge I had to really look closely at the wording to pick out the right bottle.
Is it really bad for your teeth & Stuff?
Of course! This full sugar version, yummy as it is, has a massive:
115 calories per 250ml or 1/8th of a bottle. Of this 28.4g is sugar which is an eyewincing 32% of an adults daily guideline amount.
I'm sure the diet version has a shiny halo in comparison but I don't like the artificial sweetner flavour and let's face it if it's cream soda you want then your after the sugary hit anyway.
Other advice?
It's pressurised - means - duh don't shake it up before you open it!
Consume within three days - means - it'll be flat as anything within 2 and therefore just nasty sweet water.
No Nuts - means - it doesn't contain nuts and the factory it was made in has no nuts but they can't guaruntee that the ingredients are nut free? Make of that what you will
Ingredients - carbonated water, sugar, Vanilla Extract, Lactic acid, Quillaia Extract and Potassium sorbate (all pretty nut free in my opinion but hey what do I know?)
The bottle is recyclable but as yet the lids aren't (why not?)
So do I recommend it?
Oh Yeah - it's a good deal three bottles for £1.20 - especially when they are as tasty as this. I probably would get sick of it on a daily basis but it made a really nice change to our thirst search. - Only four stars though because of the sugar.
Summary: A refreshing change
