Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Isn't as nice as the top brands

Tesco diet cola is a drink regularly consumed in our house. We have two supermarkets local to us, one being Sainsburys and one being the smaller Tesco express. The reason why we buy Tesco's coke will soon become apparent...

Personally I am a pepsi girl. I know many people can't tell a difference between pepsi and coca cola, but I can, and pepsi is nicer to me. I also prefer the diet versions of both drinks, as the full calorie ones have a cloying after taste. You might be questioning the relevance, as this is a review for the Tesco own brand cola, but as most people know the top brands it's useful to compare against them.

I tend not to buy coca cola, or pepsi unless they're on very good offers because the price to be honest is astronomical, so my alternative is the store's own brands. I have for a long time bought Sainsbury's classic cola as I find it a good alternative, but a few weeks ago my other half picked up a bottle of the Tesco one while he was in there.

Tesco diet cola is good alternative to 'the real thing'. The taste is refreshing and very close to actual coca cola (more so than pepsi I'd say.) The only downside is it has a tendency to go flat quite quickly, and when it does, the taste isn't very good at all. Even if you leave a glass out for twenty minutes it's losing the fizz and taste.

So why do we buy Tesco diet cola? The taste is fine as long as you get through the bottle in a couple of days, and my other half could get through a 2 litre bottle in a couple of hours, never mind days! Also, and this is the best bit; the price. Authentic coca cola is around £1.60 a 2L bottle, sainsburys classic cola is 83p a 2L bottle, and the Tesco diet cola is 49p for 2L bottle at our store. I feel the taste of the others doesn't justify the massive extra costs we'd incur if I was to buy them instead!

The packaging is quite plain silver with a glass of cola and the word cola in red letters on. But I don't think packaging is particularly relevant when buying a bottle of soft drink. It certainly doesn't look ultra cheap like some of the basics brands anyway.

Summary: Definitely reccomended if you're looking for a budget alterantive
