Advantages: Low price

Disadvantages: Does taste a bit artificial

My husband drinks enough cola over the course of a week to keep the Titanic afloat. After reviewing our shopping budget, I decided that he was spending far too much on Pepsi/Coke etc and something had to be done! We tried a few different supermarket own brands and to be honest, they all tasted pretty much the same. We mainly buy the Tesco brand as that's where we shop most often.

This particular brand of cola comes in a 2 litre bottle and has a thin gray plastic strip around the middle with a picture of a glass of cola on it. Not particularly inspiring, but I don't care what the packaging look like, just what the cola taste's like!

Upon opening the bottle, as with all fizzy drinks there is an audible hiss and the first smell of the drink inside. To me, it there was a noticeable difference between the smell off pepsi and the smell of this. It wasn't a bad smell, but it did smell more of artificial sweeteners than anything else.

On to the taste test....After leaving it in the fridge for a few hours, we both tried a glass. On first appearances there didn't seem to very many bubbles. Good for me as I don't like my drinks to be too fizzy, but my husband wasn't impressed. It didn't taste as bad as I was expecting. There was a strong cola flavour, but this was spoiled by the very obvious artificial taste. It's quite clear that Tesco have basically poured as many artificial sweeteners that they can find into this coke. The other problem that we had was that the fizz just didn't last very long at all. The bottle really had to be drunk the same day or day after that it was opened or it was really flat.

We also tried adding this coke to vodka as a mixer to see if the vodka improved the taste. Unfortunately it didn't, but the upside was after a few glasses we didn't care what it tasted like!

All in all, this coke is drinkable and my husband still gets it, but only because it's cheaper than Pepsi and Cola. I don't drink it anymore unless I'm desperate!

Summary: Not as good as premium brands, but drinkable

I live on coca cola - I'm sure I'll have no teeth left by the time I hit 40!

We virtually stopped drinking all carbonated drinks when our daughters had braces fitted. Still like my dandelion and burdock though, can't get me off that.
