As good as the market leader! (Tesco Diet Cola)

Advantages: Great taste, great price!

Disadvantages: Not as nice a smell on opening as diet coke

I am a huge fan of a drink of diet coke, particularly in the summer months when I enjoy nothing more than a huge glass of diet coke over ice.

I have reviewed diet coke and diet pepsi prior to writing this review and have always spoke very favourably of them, but in the current economic climate I have been searching out a atsty alternative as the leading brands, although appear to be offering some good discounts (I recently saw two two litre bottles of diect coke for two pounds) I was convinced that I would be able to find a cheaper alternative.

Tesco diet cola is currently in our local supermarket at forty seven pence a bottle so needless to say I was very tempted as I could buy four bottles for the proce of two when compared to the leading brand.

Now when I buy diet coke I have some important elements that I consider:

* How bubbly it is on first opening
* How bubbly it is after being opened for a while
* The taste straight from the fridge
* The tasts when it been left on the side for a while (and you cannot wait for it to go back in the fridge)
*How this drink tastes when poured over ice.

I must say I was very impressed with how the diet cola 'scored' on all categories, particularly on the taste. There is a good rich sweet taste from the drink when you first taste it followed by a warm almost coffee like taste. It is very smooth to drink and leaves a pleasant aftertaste.

As a chilled drink it is lovely and does not over dilute with too much ice in which is a pet hate of mine. On its own without ice, the taste is clearly stronger and delicious.

The smell of the drink is not as nice as original diet coke though and there is often a chemical whiff, but I would happily state on the record that I think diet cola from tesco is as pleasant to drink as the leading brands.

I am delighted to have found a product that is a shop brand that is in my opinion as tasty as the leading brands and I now ensure that this diet cola is a feature of my fridge!

Summary: A bargain!
