Advantages: Healthier and still tastes OK

Disadvantages: Nothing on normal Coke/Pepsi

Supermarket brand soft drinks are incredibly hit and miss when they're the full-calorie deal, let alone when they're being as daring as to be Diet too! Nevertheless, if you're after something that's cheap and also a lot better for you than the regular version, you could go a lot further wrong than picking up a 2-litre bottle of this stuff, although beware that you're going to be sacrificing some of the taste as a result, and you really do get what you pay for!

The only reason I've ever really bought the Diet stuff before, quite sadly, is because it's supposed to make you drunk quicker than the normal stuff because it lacks an enzyme in it that helps break down the alcohol or something science-y like that. So even if you're not dieting, there's one bonus for you! Regardless, it's a fair tasting drink that's going to really pale if you've recently had a "proper" Coke of Pepsi, and of course, these cheaper brands are quite notorious for going flat very quickly. I do find that even when re-sealed and kept in the fridge, they really lose their pep factor after two or three days. Still, at less than 50p a bottle, this isn't too much of a confession.

If you're on a diet, this is probably a lot more appealing than to me - it's lacking in sugar and lower in sweeteners than most of the Diet brands, and of course very cheap. You sacrifice a good amount of the flavour as a result, but if you want a substitute to tide you over whilst you diet, I imagine this is more than sufficient for the job. When mixed with JD, I found that any difference in taste was minimal thanks to the Jack Daniels taking away a lot of the Coke taste anyway.

Summary: A concession but one that dieters will gladly make I'm sure
