Advantages: Cheap but doesn't taste it, good flavour
Disadvantages: Doesn't quite meet up to coca-cola
~*~ Tesco Diet Cola ~*~
I've always been a bit of a brand snob, and up until recently wouldn't have even thought about trying anything other that Coca-Cola cola, McVities biscuits or Smirnoff vodka. However! Hard times have changed all that and seen me venturing off in search for cheaper alternatives that are as good as the well known brands (or at least almost as good). Tesco's diet cola is my most recent find...
~*~ The packaging ~*~
The packaging of this brand is quite similar to diet coke's with regards to the colouring and style. The label is a silvery grey with red lettering for the word 'cola'. This makes you instantly associate the bottle with diet cola, although I found it doesn't draw me in as quickly as diet coke does.
~*~ Nutritional information ~*~
Each 250ml serving will provide 0.4g of sugar (under 1% of your RDA, so pretty good going!) as well as a trace of sugar, salt and fat.
You will find 3 calories per serving compared to 105 in the Tesco cola - save the calories for the chocolate and go for this version!
~*~ The price ~*~
A 2 litre bottle of this product is just 47p, an absolute bargain compared to the £1.56 currently being charged for a bottle of diet coca cola at Tesco. So you could have three bottles of this, plus change, for one bottle of coke! Bargain!
~*~ The taste test ~*~
I wasn't expecting much when I put this drink to the taste. I hate the taste of 'cheap' cola drinks, and often find that they give me a headache. However, due to the bargain price I put this all behind me and poured myself a nice glass of tesco diet cola, with vodka of course....
I was quite pleasantly surprised on first taste. The cola tastes like the American Cola brands. It isn't as fizzy as coke, and doesn't have as much of a kick to it, but it isn't bad.
Make sure you serve ice cold!
Compared to diet coke, I must admit diet coke does win. It has that little bit of something that other cola brands just don't seem to be able to match. However, this one has it's own unique taste which is by no means bad.
Serving suggestion: Ice cold with a slice of lemon and a couple of cubes of ice (vodka optional but makes the experience more enjoyable!).
~*~ The verdict ~*~
I will definitely be buying this again! By replacing your normal diet coke with this Tesco version, you are saving a pound a bottle, which is quite a significant amount!
I must admit that as good as this product is I do prefer Diet Coke, and will probably purchase it from Tesco if it is on good enough of an offer, or if I am taking it to a party and dont want to look too cheap! Barring this though, this drink is definitely my coke replacement!
Enjoy!
Summary: A good coca cola alternative
