Advantages: Healthy, Low in Sugars, Smooth Texture
Disadvantages: Price Hike Recently, Poor Packaging
When this first came out it was an absolute bargain at 54p for a 1 litre carton. That's cheaper than the Tesco Value orange juice is! Plus you get the benefits of all the added vitamins in this one. All good things must come to an end though, and of course they waited until people had become accustomed to buying it for a few weeks before suddenly jacking the price up in the hope that no-one would notice. So now, a 1 litre carton will set you back 88p. Bit of a jump there I'm sure you'll agree!
The packaging on this is the first thing that warrants a mention. It's got a dodgy kind of screw cap lid on it that snapped clean off when I tried to open the second carton we ever bought of this! Not a great early impression. And the cardboard container itself isn't fantastic either, as it's very thin, flimsy, and easy to squeeze everywhere when being lifted out of the fridge. Obviously if the cap didn't fall off this wouldn't be such a problem.
The actual juice was perfectly acceptable, if a little on the healthy living taste side of things. Unfortunately, that's the price you have to pay in a bid to attempt to drink healthy drinks though. Sure they taste better packed out with sugar, but they're not so great for your teeth and waistline. I think the lack of sugar, and the bulking out with water, is what's given this quite a thin texture to. But I quite liked that about this as there were certainly not 'bits' or any signs of pulp that annoy me when present in fruit juice drinks.
The obvious boon to buying this drink is that it contains added vitamins and is packed with a decent content of various fruits. I'd love to give you the run down on the various nutritional contents but sadly Tesco haven't uploaded these to their website yet, and I haven't had a carton of this for a couple of weeks now (since the price went up). When I had it though, I did read the nutritional contents and remember being impressed with the relatively high fruit content for such a thin drink, along with a high amount of Vitamin C amongst other things.
I think if you're looking for a morning vitamin boost without taking tablets then this is definitely one to consider. It's ideal for kids who need a boost too, especially if you want to avoid giving them tablets (and let's face it, most of us do). The packaging is pretty rubbish, and the price jump was a bit sudden. But all in all this is an acceptable product for the price. I think it deserves three and a half stars really but I've gone for three because of the terribly packaging.

- 18/08/09 I'm puzzled - if you don't have the information on the healthy aspect of this drink which is it's main selling point, then why write the review...? |
