Advantages: Gives you energy really quickly and is low priced

Disadvantages: A bit of a chemical aftertaste

Before I made a concerted effort at New Year to try and ditch drinking loads of caffeinated and fizzy drinks, I used to buy quite a few energy drinks. The one I kept coming back to over and over was the ever-so-sweet Kick drink from Tesco. I have to say though that I did stop drinking energy drinks due to not getting enough sleep.

Available in the Standard or Sugar Free versions, Kick (Now rebranded as KX) was my energy drink of choice. At the time, it was 28p per can and sometimes it was on offer for 4 cans for £1, while the bottles were roughly 78p and usually on a buy one get one free offer.

The bottle has a horseshoe on the front and is predominantly blue with red and white lettering. While it is similar in taste to Red Bull, I think there is a distinct difference. Kick has, to me, got a chemical aftertaste whereas Red Bull is smoother. It delivers a powerful awakening effect with the high caffeine levels it has, and takes a while to go. Consequently, it has led me to frequent nights laying staring at the ceiling as I couldn't sleep.

As with all caffeinated drinks, the high lasted for quite a while, and then died off. I think out of all of the energy drinks, Tesco Kick definitely delivers the most bang per buck due to its low cost.

Summary: A quick pick me up
